7/7 (Tue) AI Slop and the Future of Online Content
Host: Liwen
How much time do you spend on social media every day?
Have you ever come across a video, image, or article online that looked strange, fake, or obviously AI-generated — but somehow still got thousands or even millions of views?
Recently, people have started using the term “AI slop” to describe this kind of low-quality, mass-produced AI content. It can be creepy, funny, absurd, misleading, or simply meaningless — but it is spreading quickly across the internet.
From bizarre short videos and fake news to AI-written books and strange advertising images, AI-generated content is changing what we see online every day.
But is AI slop just harmless entertainment?
Or is it slowly reshaping our attention, our trust, and the future of creativity?
In this session, we will discuss how AI-generated content affects social media, online trust, creative industries, and our own ability to judge what is real.

Session 1
Q1. What exactly is “AI slop”? Why do you think it has become so common online?
Q2. Why do low-quality AI-generated short videos sometimes get more views than content made by real people?
Q3. AI slop can include absurd videos, strange advertising images, propaganda, realistic fake news, and low-quality AI-written books. Which type do you think is the most dangerous to society? Why?
Q4. Is AI-generated content always harmful, or can it also be useful and valuable? Why?
Session 2
Q5. If AI-generated short videos can attract more views and make more money than human-made content, is there any reason not to create them?
Q6. Should social media platforms reduce the visibility of AI-generated content, even if many users enjoy watching it?
Q7. If AI-generated content continues to outperform human-created content in views and revenue, how might this change the future of creative industries?
Q8. As AI-generated videos, images, and articles become more convincing, what can we do to check whether the content we see online is real?
